The Details

Brief

I was asked to design a planting scheme for a south-facing rockery – it had to be low maintenance and brightly coloured.

Solution

I used a black leafed grass – Ophiopogon nigrescens to provide a contrast behind the large stone. I also used Liriope to mirror the black leaves with green ones.

I put in 3 Cornus sanguinea “Midwinter Fire” to provide a brightly coloured orange/red stem through the winter.

I used 3 Geums – Mrs. Bradshaw (red), Lady Stratheden (yellow) and Borisii (orange).
