The Details

Brief:

Dame Cleo Laine asked me to re-plant ALL the borders in her estate garden. I created mood boards of colour combinations to help her choose the colours. She really went for a magenta and lime combination!

I had only 3 weeks to clear everything out and re-plant to be in time for the first Dankworth Family Festival in 2016.

I repeated the use of plants but changed up the colours. Lupins were threaded throughout! The borders were “edged” using Heuchera Palace Purple or Obsidian. The roses are Gertrude Jekyll, Darcey Bussell and Munstead Wood.

I used sage coloured obelisks for Clematis to scramble up, repeated through each border, either side of the dividing walls.

I asked Dame Cleo to give each area a name – related to her favourite songs – He was Beautiful immediately chosen!

Let’s Take a Closer Look

After a hard day’s work…

After a long day planting up, Dame Cleo came out to have a chat – note the glass of red wine – and sat next to Richard (who was a great help to me). She refused to share the wine and ate his last Jaffa cake!
